Resistance Simulation
Stage 5
Content: PW3b. describe qualitatively the relationship between voltage, resistance and current
Link: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/resistance-in-a-wire/latest/resistance-in-a-wire_en.html
The activity better allows students to physically visualise what resistance, voltage and current are. The simulation helps students to understand and build competence in the relationship between current, voltage and resistance. Students are able to see directly the changes on current that changing the voltage and current can make.
Activity: Students will be asked for homework to play around with the simulation and then plot two different lines on two separate graphs of voltage vs current and resistance vs current keeping the other variable constant. The task will be done on excel and students will need to choose 10 data points per variable to work with. In class students will be asked to discuss what effect each of the variables had on current and write a statement for each variable into their books.
