Bean plant blog
Stage 4

Content:
LW3 a.identify the materials required by multicellular organisms for the processes of respiration and photosynthesis
Students plan investigations by:
Including hands on activities gives younger students a break from learning just theory in the classroom. The experiment is also an opportunity for students to see science in practice and helps students to visualise the theory that we are studying. Finally, growing a bean plant themselves gives them a sense of accomplishment as well as responsibility which hopefully will help to encourage them to keep up with the blog. The blog also allows students to complete the task at their own pace to some extent. Furthermore, creating content which other internet users will be able to see gives students a sense of accountability and purpose.
Activity: Students are asked to grow two bean plants. One in the sun and one in an area with no light and asked to keep a weekly blog in which they are to write their observations for the plant.
Through this experiment, students will learn to identify and compare independent variables and dependent variables.

Students plan investigations by:
- with guidance, planning appropriate investigation methods to test predictions, answer questions or solve problems including surveys, fieldwork, research and fair tests (ACSIS086, ACSIS103, ACSHE081, ACSHE098)
- deciding which variable should be changed and measured in fair tests while keeping everything else the same (ACSIS087, ACSIS104)
